Hello Kitty...
This little birthday cake was created for a very special little girl in my family. Kitty was very fun to create and she loved it so much she kept opening the refrigerator to gaze at her cake!
70th Celebration
My friends asked me to do a birthday cake for their dad who turned 70 over Thanksgiving weekend. We used fabric ribbon as they requested and the cake was almond amaretto flavored with cream cheese frosting and apricots in the filling. Yummy!
Build-A-Birthday
Forgive my tardiness on posts! I'm waaaay behind!! This cake was from my nephew's 4th birthday party in October. The party was all a construction zone and so we created hand tools out of fondant on top of a orange fondant covered chocolate fudge cake. Happy Birthday RJS!

True Love and Ruffles
This has been a CrAzY month!!! From vacationing myself to having visitors staying with us and making my first wedding cake for a very special couple, I'm surprised I've survived it all in one piece!! It was my pleasure to make this cake for the newlyweds who had a beautiful wedding. The cake consisted of three different flavors: red velvet with cream cheese, chocolate syrup cake with Oreo cream cheese and white chocolate pound cake with raspberry Chambord buttercream filling. Everything went so smoothly with the whole process and the delivery that I swear I had help from above. There is just no margin of error for wedding cakes!!! Here's to a lifetime of love and happiness, ERB+RB! xoxo

Pinson~
This cake was made especially for our little Grandmother's Birthday luncheon this past Saturday. When she was younger, her grandfather nicknamed her "Pinson" which is a little finch. She's still itty bitty and as gracious as ever. The cake was Lemon Pponge soaked in Limoncello with Raspberry Chambord Buttercream with fresh raspberries. Bonne Fete Grandmere Pinson!

50 Years of Bliss~
This cake was delivered this past Saturday to a couple I admire so much. Fifty years together is so rare nowadays that it is truly spectacular to see a couple so much in love after this long. I was honored to make the cake for this celebration!

Showers of Love~
This cake was an aunt's gift to her niece for her wedding shower and the one below for her mother, whose birthday was the same day! The exquisite design of the shower cake is from PinkCakeBox.com and the teacup birthday cake was designed to match the elegance of the larger cake. Both cakes were Almond Amaretto flavor with Raspberry Chambord Buttercream filling. Congratulations to the bride and happy birthday to the momma!

Lucky 30
This cake was a blast to create! The birthday girl has a dream of traveling to Ireland and as a tribute to her "Lucky 30" year we created a chocolate syrup cake with chocolate cherry filling. We found this design that was more of a Valentine's day theme on Cake Central and tweaked it to fit this Irish theme. The headboard was made of cereal treats and the cobblestone rocks were pieces of fondant painted with different shades of gray and black. Unfortunately I am not so talented with sculpting and so I enlisted my oh-so-talented sister in law to help shape this little guy!

Arggghh Matey!
My oldest nephew turned 6 this past weekend and is obsessed with pirates. The cake was chocolate fudge (his favorite), the sand was made with almond meal and brown sugar, and the pirate ship was made of cereal treats. The treasure map had all his favorite places on it as well!
Happy birthday little Captain!xoxo

Starry Sweet Sixteen!
When I got the call for a sweet sixteen birthday cake for a family friend, I was so excited to do something girly and whimsical! This design was inspired by Pink Cake Box with a few twists to match the decor and colors of the party. Happy Birthday LMB!

Pineapple Pete
Pineapple Pete has a special place in the groom's heart! This little guy was fun to create! Of course the cake had to be pineapple with a filling of fresh pineapple that was simmered with brown sugar and butter to resemble the wonderful taste of pineapple upside down cake! I wish all the best to Mike and Tricia! Mahalo!

25th Wedding Anniversary
My last post about gumpaste flowers was leading up to this special event! Those flowers were specifically meant to decorate this special cake. I planned a surprise 25th anniversary for my parents this past Sunday to celebrate no small feat for these days. Lots of planning and organization I tell you. This cake was almond amaretto flavored with cream cheese frosting. The cake topper was the original one that my parents had on their wedding cake which was made by my grandmother. Until the next celebration...

Gumpaste Roses
I've been working on these flowers for weeks learning as I went. I have never taken any classes so I've been scouring youtube for videos to make the steps easier but it is still very time consuming. Whenever I have an extra hour or so I would sit at my dinner table and roll, cut, roll, cut. There are 20+ petals in each flower...individually cut circles, ruffled edges and formed to open. Each flower takes the combined time of probably one half hour each not including the drying between each layer of petals. Yesterday I did my final touches by petal dusting them with pinks and yellows. I have very high respect for cake artists that can create so many different flowers that are beautiful..one day I'll get there!!!

The Cake of Patience
There's a point where you just have to walk away when everything is going wrong...This was the cake from hell (I say it jokingly right now but not that week!). It was already a busy week for all of us but this was a family wedding shower so it was important for me to make this cake extra special! I absolutely wanted it to be pink velvet to match the pink in the shower theme...It looked pink in the mixing bowl but when it baked it turned teddy bear brown!! Ahh! When I came to roll out the fondant, it wasn't as easy as it usually is and I realized with horror that I had missed an important ingredient...water!! Too late at that point to add it in I just had to use more muscle to roll it out and it wasn't as smooth as I wanted. I had been struggling with the design since the beginning since I had free range to do whatever I wanted..I had made tons of little black and pink flowers and put them around the middle tier which at that point my husband informed me that the cake was leaning..YiKeS! I had to unstack the cake to fix the one dowel that was causing the problem when I dropped the second tier and luckily caught it before it hit one of our kitchen chairs! I put everything back together, slapped the flowers on the second tier and put it in the fridge but I had that feeling of "you can do better, Nia". I kept looking in the fridge and slamming the door shut in disgust..I was told to leave it alone and go to bed because I was about to go mad!! The next day on my to work the cake was haunting me...there was no way I was bringing it like that to the shower that night the way it was right now!! I left work at 11 only to go home and undo the whole design and start fresh with an extra bow and way better flowers. I felt so much better bringing the cake after revamping it...I'm still sighing with relief!

Happy Mother's Day...
It's that weekend of celebrating your momma and all the little things she does for you...Crazy weekend since it's sandwiched between my mother in law's birthday and mine...yikes! Tha above is actually an Easter cake I did for a client but it would've been perfect for this holiday too...Although next time I definitely will make my bow with gumpaste rather than fondant as the heat was making it droopy...Happy Momma's Day!!

The niece and nephew...
Ok so I know there's a lot of posts today but only because I'm trying to catch up to make room for the new cakes coming up this month! This was a birthday cake for my twin niece and nephew! Their momma had a hard time thinking of something that would suit both a boy and a girl...she liked a vintage Pooh cake but without the Pooh and loved the honeybees...and Voila this cake came about! Yummy white chocolate pound cake and raspberry buttercream too!!
Parisien Macarons....
New to this....
Welcome to my new blog...I never thought I would be one to do this but it's a little insight to my passion and my life...Making cakes is definitely an adventure! I wanted to show the progression of learning new tricks and hurdles you overcome all add to the experience. Here's the first fondant cake I did with my sister in law last year for a sweet sixteen Tiffany themed party! As hectic as it was that week it sparked an imagination and dream of one day being able to do this as a career rather than a hobby...Thanks to my sister in law!!
